WordPress.com’s 10 Anniversary

WordPress.com and Automattic, the company behind it, are celebrating their 10th anniversary. “Ten years, 2.5 billion posts, and 3 billion comments later,” Mark Armstrong writes,  “Automattic is stronger than ever — with WordPress.com and a host of other services aimed at helping independent publishers, bloggers, and business owners.”

Those services include WooCommerce, Jetpack, Akismet, VaultPress, Polldaddy, Cloudup, Simplenote, Longreads, the Selfies app, WordPress.com VIP, WordPress Enterprise, and lots, lots more. Even when you count all of WordPress.com as one website, nearly one quarter of all the websites in the universe are built with WordPress. That’s a lot of websites. And a lot of services.

I’ve been working with WordPress for a little more than half that time, setting up and writing WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress blogs for clients; building WordPress websites; volunteering in the support forums; attending MeetUps; organizing, sponsoring, and speaking at WordCamps; and teaching people how to use WordPress. Most recently,  Haden Interactive’s Josepha Haden Chomphosy joined Automattic as a Community Wrangler.

We’re still excited about WordPress. It’s a great product, with a great mission, and we wish Automattic and the Automatticians a very happy anniversary, with many more to come!
